A Preface That Is Not Quite a Preface

I have a deep love for children, for they are a reflection of myself. When I see children, my eyes naturally light up; when I see children, my thoughts effortlessly return to my own childhood; when I see children, my heart is filled with boundless joy.

I hold children in high regard—they are my teachers. I believe every child is delightful, every child is exceptional, and every child has boundless potential.

I am deeply passionate about children; they are like angels to me. Children bring hope to our lives, happiness to our hearts, and joy to our every moment and place.

For the healthy growth of every child, we have already made considerable efforts. However, there is always more we can do, more we should do, and indeed, more we must do.

A simple conversation with my daughter many years ago still brings me great satisfaction today. At that time, I asked her, “What plans do you have for the journey of life?” She answered, “Dad, back in middle school, I observed a common phenomenon in society: many parents are unsure of how to grow together with their children. I want to devote my life to this cause.”

Reflecting on my own decades of teaching experience, one clear common thread stands out—almost every class inevitably involves a discussion about children.

Shi Luyin was once my student and is now a dear friend, despite our age difference. When discussing children’s growth, we can talk endlessly, whether from the perspective of children and parents or from the family to society. When Luyin shared with me a few years ago that his passion, aspirations, and pursuits were all connected to the growth of children, I was overjoyed and could not help but express my admiration. I once remarked, “Your name, Shi Luyin, seems to foreshadow your destiny—to be devoted to the cause of children.”

A few years ago, Luyin told me that he was researching and compiling summaries of child-friendly practices in China. I was excited and encouraged him, saying, “This is such a meaningful endeavor. You must dedicate yourself fully to it and do it well.” Recently, when Luyin informed me that the draft of the Child-Friendly Practical Cases in China series was completed, I could hardly wait to read it. Thus, when Luyin asked me to write some reflections for this work, I happily agreed. I am confident that the publication of Child-Friendly Practical Cases in China will provide inspiration for all, regardless of who the reader may be.

Just as one who drinks water knows its temperature, I have refrained from commenting on the book’s content to avoid shaping readers’ thoughts in advance. I hope to allow each reader to discover its insights freely, independently, and thoughtfully.

Excitement kept me awake last night. At 3:50 a.m., I rose, sat at the keyboard, and wrote this as my preface.
